Blah

I've been listening to this over and over again tonight. I just love this song so much. You can't tell me you don't agree. Impossible.

Interesting Blog Post

So... obviously I'm not gay but regardless I loved and felt like I could relate to this blog post written by the anonymous Latter-Day Saint (Mormon) writer who blogs about his struggles and determination to put aside his homosexual tendencies to live the gospel...this post focused on how to find peace in the chaos/not so perfect parts of our lives and he just puts it so perfectly that I thought our many followers should check it out too regardless of their beliefs, seems like just everyday ramblings on that topic that everyone could relate to :)

I'll Have Her Cake And Eat It Too

So tonight, Mary decided to leave the apartment to interact with other humans. This is a big deal because we don't this often. This is rare. I declined, and decided to stay in and read, because I'm that cool.

Mary comes home after an hour with like half an ice cream cake from Coldstone. Apparently it was her friend's birthday and told her to take the rest home...? I'm still confused but utterly happy. So we went to town on that thing. But she told me to slow down because they might stop by during the week to eat some more. To which I said "Eff that it's in my house now" (I was partly joking though).

And she replied with "Leave it to the Curtis's to steal someone's birthday cake."

That's all. I just thought it was funny and felt like sharing. But you probably had to be there. Sorry.

The Decemberists....FOR FREE

So guess who I saw for free tonight at Pioneer Park in Salt Lake?

It was great. I love people watching more than almost anything in the world. I also love the contact high. I'm kidding. But for serious that is the place to be if you wanna see interesting people, to say the least.

Also, I'm SOOO close to finishing up organizing my pictures. I just can't wait.

Next week is Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and I hope to be able to make it. I can't embed the video, but you should check this out and come!

Reality TV

Multiple people have told me and Michelle that they'd tune in if we had a reality tv show and we're convinced that it's because we're THAT weird. Regardless, sometimes daily we find ourselves on the ground laughing at funny things one or the other says and/or does...this could be why we don't get out as much as we should, we get to witness our own reality show everyday and naturally we're each other's #1 fans so it helps the self-esteem thing and keeps life fun. Our new goal is to document the weird super cool things that happen on a daily basis around the M&M Curtis household and post them here on our lovely blog. This will be our compromise for all those that have BEGGED to tune into our weird lives...hehe. Sneak peak:

As we were watching So You Think You Can Dance (otherwise known to the true fans as SYTYCD), one of the girl dancers Caitlynn did an amazing job on a dance where she played the super sexy girl dancing for her man kind of thing...you get the point...anyways, as we're laying there watching the show on my computer with my back to her I hear her behind me say quietly, "I sure do hope that comes into my room tonight..." She's not actually a lesbian, settle down... it was just her weird way of saying, man she looks hot in this dance! Anyways, it cracked me up for awhile, you probably had to be there but to me worth laughing about for days. Here's a link to a clip of the dance so you can dream too:

Only One Year To Wait....

So I'm already breaking my vow of blogger silence. I still have 847,398,283 pictures to sort through.....but I couldn't resist becaaaauuuse:

OH MY GOSH

OH MY GOSH

OH. MY. GOSH.

You must go here to see what I'm talking about. I originally posted a different and wrong video, but was thankfully corrected. Anyway,

I'm trembling with excitement. Just trembling.

Oh and the last Harry Potter movie....

Amazing!!!

Not only for obvious reasons, but also because the trailers preceding the movie informed me that the Dark Knight Rises will soon(ish) be in my life.

My Life on an External Hard Drive

So I've finally taken on the task of organizing my millions and millions of pictures that are stored on my external hard drive. I'm sort of regretting this decision (but not really) since it's such a mess and actually a really difficult and time-consuming project. And even though I'm actually doing something quite productive, I feel really lazy because I'm just glued to a chair with my laptop, and I've got the show Friends playing on loop in the background. I truly can quote that show word for word now, and I just do not even know how many times I have gone through all 10 seasons. I mean not since I started this little project, but just in general.

Anyway. I finished pretty much everything, except my completely unorganized pictures from my trip to the Middle East in 2009. I did Egypt, and now I'm working on Jordan, where the majority of my time was spent that summer. Aaaand.....OH. MY. GOSH. SO MANY PICTURES. So not only am I now extremely nostalgic and sad that those days are gone....but I'm really annoyed that I took so many pictures and now have to go through them and organize them since I didn't do that as that summer went along.

Once I finished the rest of my pictures and knew I only had my study abroad to cover, I was really excited and thought I was almost finished. But oh. Oh no. I still haven't even touched Israel, and I can't seem to navigate through Jordan. I'm telling you...it's a mess. And I have to go through each and every one because some of it is just stupid and taking up space, and also I've got a lot of repeat pictures. I'm talking thoooouuuusaaaands of pictures to sort through.

So I apparently I wasn't almost finished, silly me. I'M JUST BEGINNING. I think this will take me all week, if not longer. I certainly hope not longer. So basically, I've decided that if I'm on my computer, I'm only going to bother with Facebook or Gmail if it's not sorting pictures. I've got to get this done so I can move on to something that doesn't involve me sitting on a couch watching TV and eating crappy food.

This means no blogging. Also the reason I've been absent for the past week. So if anyone blogs in the near future, it'll probably be Mary. Unless I cave and decide to just delete my life's worth of pictures because that just seems easier. Don't worry, I'll probably not be that stupid...

Get Some

(Title is Mary's creative contribution to this fine piece of literature)

You know what drives me bonkers???
When people get married, then Facebook update about it 2 seconds later.

Excuse me.
.............................................................................................................................

You should probably have a lot on your plate at that moment in time.
I would be so pissed off if I found my husband commenting on his friends' updates while we are for the first time sharing a bed at an oceanview honeymoon suite.
If you are on Facebook, or any other social media outlet for that matter, then that means that you are not taking advantage of ....well you know.
I mean come on! Put the Android down, warm the bath water and light the stinkin candles already!

On behalf of someone who is single, and certainly has your typical if not more amount of raging sexual hormones......
GET OFF FACEBOOK THROUGHOUT YOUR HONEYMOON AND GET SOME.

The Hogle Zoo

A few weeks ago, I went to the Hogle Zoo with Mary and our roommate and another friend. Of course every single animal was sleeping in a hole somewhere so we couldn't see them. But we still had fun.

When we first walked in there were dinosaurs everywhere. I was so confused. I had not come to see plastic life-size extinct animal toys. But apparently that's some theme that the zoo has got goin on. There are a few that make dinosaur noises that are supposed to be scary for children. Well I think they scared me more than any of the kids.

Also, if you want to have sex but know you shouldn't for whatever reason....be it religious or also just out of fear of creating an accidental child...go to the zoo. That's natural birth control right there. Just observing the hell that those parents were going through trying to control those 2 foot tall beasts was enough to convince me to be celibate for the rest of my life. You better believe these pants are never coming off now, having witnessed that scene.

My favorite exhibit. We watched these guys climb around for  a really long time.

Note this guy's pose. Looks painful.

Favorite picture. Doesn't it look just like Mary??? ;-)

We didn't know why that cage was there. So naturally, I climbed in it and pretended to be a rabid animal.

You would think they would have tried to put me in the cage with King Kong (see above) with those arms.

I didn't work the camera right, and crouched down in the least flattering way possible.  Clearly.

And thaaaaaat's how it's done :-)
All in all, good day. Especially because we ended it with some delicious Nielson's Frozen Custard! I mean we had only been twice that week, as well as Coldstone once. It's not a good week unless you hit up the ice cream shops 4 times!

Crazy Groupon Ladies

So this past week my mom and older sister Amanda came into town and we were BUSY cashing in Groupon after Groupon trying lots of new things. We had planned to go Paragliding for a celebration of our graduation way back in April but Utah still thought it was January and that we were supposed to be having below freezing temps still so...we had to push off celebrating to mid summer when my Mom was back in town. Go figure. Utah, sometimes I really don’t get you, despite your GORGEOUS scenery.

When Amanda and Mom first got here, they came to visit me at work, mostly to try the food after all I talked up the food served in our cafeteria. It was fun for me to show them around my stomping grounds and to show off our super cool cafeteria, I’m a weird dietitian I’m aware. Unfortunately I don’t think they loved the food as much as I did but they faked it good enough for me. Hehe. Then while Amanda was in town I figured that was the perfect time to see the new Xmen movie, with us being the only 2 girls left in the world that get excited to watch that series, it may have been my only chance. And of course, I could not let them leave the state without indulging in the heavenly Nielson’s Frozen Custard. I think this food recommendation was better received, hard to disappoint a Curtis when you take them to get ice cream though. Man I love that place. Good thing Michelle and I have our high school (maybe even junior high?) boyfriends to smile at us and give us great service with each visit. Now if only they can get the smell to go away inside the restaurant and start to give us special privileges for being frequent customers, it’d be all that much better.

Anyways the real adventures started on Friday when we all got up early to head over to the point of the mountain to go paragliding! Amanda was nice enough to get up early and take pictures of us at the bottom as we landed so we’ve got every paraglider’s landing in that 30 minutes time frame captured, including us! J I was very grateful for the little seat thing that they give you to sit on during the ride. I am still a kid inside and was super nervous/uncomfortable about sitting in a random guy’s lap as we rode around the mountain. Now if it was our cute, single driver who took us up to the top of the mountain that may have been a different story…in that case seats may have been overrated. J My favorite part though was when my mom told her tandem flyer that she had bad knees so the taking off and landing may be an issue. He brought over his friend and the 3 of them made for the funniest image for me and Michelle as they took off. Sorry you missed out. Me and Michelle went right after each other so it was fun to wave and giggle as we passed each other flying through the air, not too often we get to do that. And hey, now we can check that off our bucket list, if we had one. The only thing to make it more cool would be if we jumped off a higher mountain, it was fun but not super exhilarating.

mom's helper in front to help her take off

the helper struggled a bit - me and Michelle were dying laughing at this point :)

After paragliding we took them to House of Bread to use yet another Groupon. We didn’t love the cinnamon rolls but everything else was divine. I say everything because I’m pretty definitely sure we walked out with 20 dollars worth of bread. Love my fatty carbs. And so does my growing bum and waistline.

We went to the Utah Arts Festival that night and saw a lot of interesting things/people. I loved it, despite the heat that tried really hard to kill us. My favorite part was the performances by Ballet West. AMAZING. I even signed up for emails so that I never miss a performance of theirs ever again. Man I miss ballet and performing sometimes. Pictures in front of the stage:

The next day we took off for Moab for the rafting trip! It felt like the drive was forever long but maybe that's because me and Michelle had an extremely unnecessary detour on the way down to Provo. We don't want to talk about it. Anyways, so we arrived there that evening and ate at a halfway decent Mexican restaurant and then everyone got on their computers in the hotel room while I laid on the hotel bed wishing I got the cool kid memo about the designated 'computer time' and waited for bedtime to come. I guess not too different from a normal day. Just kidding...kind of. :)

The following morning we got up early and headed to the meeting spot to get on the bus that would take us to our rafting spot. Best part was that we were cashing in 2 groupons and were only supposed to have 1 groupon per family per trip, (weird huh? especially since we all live in different places for the most part!) So Mom and Michelle got to be friends and then me and Amanda, with each set arriving at different times and everything. Good thing I wrote down the same address as Michelle (who I also share a last name with) on the waiver. Common sense does not run through my blood. It ended up working out okay though.

Once we got to the bus we all got to be friends again and enjoyed our drive up through the Canyonlands on the school bus with our new friends that Mom made for us. We got split into groups and discussed what we do if/when we flip out or come into danger. That did not sit well with our group, flipping out was not on our agenda. Our guide called it the "f word..." f=falling out..ha ha ha. :) We ended up staying in the whole time but got splashed pretty good with the ICY cold water, (the main reason I really screamed.) I would definitely recommend it though...nice weather, fun ride, great company, good arm workout, nice tan. Can't go wrong with that combination. We got some really fun pictures from some sneaky photographers hiding out somewhere in our surroundings and other's taken by our guide, here's a sneak peak....go to the link below to see the rest:

picture with the gang while waiting for lunch

Michelle snuck right in there for the pic of our yummy lunch
the trek of shame back to our raft, the only raft that didn't manage to paddle strong enough through the eddy to dock by the other rafts and where lunch was served therefore we got to hike a bit...:)

and this is the reason family that I could not see the supposed alligator in the rock formation - I was looking at just a portion of it! haha

This post is too long I know. Sorry but we Curtis's are a bit on the long winded side, you probably already knew that though. Poor men in our lives. Anyways...afterwards we had to say bye to Amanda and Mom and just start planning our next trip which had better include our other favorite sister Lindsey! :)

Facelift

The wonderful Megan Robinson helped me play around with my blog yesterday, so you can see that things are different. I still need to tighten some screws obviously, and this background color isn't quite the one that me and Mary are settling on, but I'm so happy Megan taught me a thing or two about makin the blog look better. Let's see if I can put those new skills to work at some point this next week...... THANKS MEGAN!!! :-)
