Another Recap, Don't Feel Like A Creative Title

The pictures still have weird white borders, and I haven't tried to figure out how to fix that. But I guess it is consistent with our apparently ugly blog theme. One day...one day we'll give this page a facelift...

So a few weeks ago, me and Mary and our Aunt Sharlyn went to see Noah and the Whale because good heavens why would you not go see them if you were in SLC or the surrounding area the night that they graced us with their presence!

I was the first in line again, because I overestimated their popularity. Which is sad because they are so talented people don't know what they're missing. Especially live. Anyway, I was actually alone for like 30 minutes, and I was only like an hour and 15 minutes early. But that just gave me time to go grab a taco from the freakin awesome Mexican food vendor that's always across the street from In The Venue. Yum.

There's not really a whole lot to report on this one. Basically we sat next to an odd couple. A lesbian couple, and one of the girls looked about my age, and the other looked about my mother's age. They were not odd because of same-sex attraction (p.s. YAY NEW YORK!!!! <-- solely my opinion, not necessarily Mary's), but simply because of the striking age difference.

The performance was phenomenal. They played I think their entire new album, plus all of their best songs from their previous albums. They didn't talk much, but that's okay. Is it wrong that their music turns me on? Especially watching the lead singer belts out such poetic tunes with really passionate body language. mmmmmMMMMM :-)

Some favorites, I've probably already posted a few of these in previous posts...

A song to lift you u for when you're depressed (the previous one is good for that too):

Upbeat, energetic, fun, makes you wanna dance:

Can't go wrong here....:

And it looks like you'll have to head to YouTube for this one. But do yourself a favor and go. You've probably actually heard it before. But watch it anyway.

I really just love all of their songs. All of them.

And here are some pictures from the evening. Not my most photogenic day, don't judge me.

Before the show. Yeah, we're almost matching. It was an accident. An accident that happens way too often, actually.

My cute Aunt Sharlyn and my dear sister, Mary. I have to put a comma there not because it's grammatically correct (even though it is) but because if I leave it out it sounds like Mary is a nun.

Ha I love how it looks like she's staring longingly at what is probably an underage boy.

For some reason, I decided to make bug-eyes. Not sure why,  but apparently I did.

The band

Couldn't resist taking a picture of this. What's missing? Don't judge me. He's not actually lacking any limbs, he looks like this because he chose to.

Makes me weak in the knees....

So this is funny to only 3 people: me, Mary, and Sharlyn. Basically, this chick came out of nowhere and was dancing really seductively all over the boy with no arms. It made for great entertainment. They didn't know each other before, but I'm pretty sure later that night that boy got laaaiiiid.

Violinist.

Scary monster. Just kidding. But this guy was fun to watch simply because of his hair and how he threw it every which way. He got so sweaty that he eventually had to towel it off like a dog.

Pretend Mexican Food

I'm back, as promised. What a month it has been! I took a little hiatus because I wanted to spend every spare minute studying for an Arabic test which could lead at some point lead to a job.....well too bad I didn't do so hot on that test. One mistake got me flustered and I fumbled through the rest. I don't know what the bar is, because I don't know how many civilians are willing to go to Iraq...but even in this economy I can only assume that the bar is pretty high, probably higher than I scored. So back to the grind for me! And by grind, I don't mean work because I didn't actually stop working at my stupid restaurant job, but I mean the grind of applying to places desperately hoping that someone wants to give me an interview.

In the meantime, me and Mary hit up a "Mexican" restaurant by the name of Tres Hombres. The quotation marks are because this restaurant claimed to be Mexican food, but it was actually disgusting food. To start, our service was absolutely terrible. We planned on buying a frozen drink because there were a lot of flavors that were appealing, but when we asked our server what "Blue Hawaii" tastes like, this was our conversation:

Server: "Oh you know....nothing really."
Mary: "Ummmm....nothing..?"
Server: "Yeah, it doesn't really have a flavor."
Me: "Ooook. So What about Jungle Juice?" (<--side note...Mary kept calling it "Jungle Fever" instead hahaha silly naive girl)
Server: "Um yeah I mean people don't complain about it."
Mary: "So they like it?"
Server: "Eh, like I said, no complaints."
Me: "Ok well this is pointless, we'll just have waters."

Those drinks were 6 bucks! Stupid girl could easily have sold them to us and upped her ticket price therefore her tip. She was completely unattentive, and really the whole experience of nasty food could have been off-set a bit had she maybe smiled just once. But no. And I'm just going to copy and paste the comment from a picture on Facebook to save time here haha. This was the meal: over-cooked dry seasonless chicken pretending to be fajita meat, microwaved tortillas from Walmart, watery guacamole, crunchy rice, and burnt beans. And Mary's was supposed to be a chicken burrito, but was actually a tortilla that housed the same disgusting chicken and was topped with what we can only describe as bbq sauce. The sides on her plate were identical to mine, down to the grossness. I had planned on buying flan as dessert, but after that whole episode we decided to hit up The Dodo after our movie instead. I never tip less than 20-25%. This girl got 10%. Which is really really saying something coming from me.

I don't care what you say, I'll never go there again. And to think someone had recommended that place. What a disappointment. Me thinks that someone has never actually tasted real Mexican food before...what a dreary world that person must live in!

Our movie:

Really cute movie, loved the cast. I just feel like I would have enjoyed it more if I were just a tad more cultured in the humanities department...Most of the humor of the movie came from jokes about artists from the past, and while I understood a lot of those jokes, I definitely need to be more educated in that department. Great movie, but only if you know a thing or 2 about literature and art.

To do

I need to blog about the Noah and the Whale show with Mary and Sharlyn, the disgusting food at Tres Hombres and how never to go there, our trip to the Hogle Zoo, and one of these days I'm going to list all my pet peeves as a server. But probably not for about another week and half. Too much to do in my down time till then. Now I know soooooo many people are waiting at the edge of their seats to hear me go on and on, but I suppose you'll just have to wait. In the meantime, enjoy some good tunes, won't you?

Come to their show with me and Mary and Emily (and Sharlyn?) in July!

The Sound of Sunday

Ever since we were little us kids had Kraft Mac and Cheese every Sunday after church...without even realizing it, we had made some sort of tradition that we looked forward to every week, going as far as dragging our poor mom out the door without letting her socialize after church just so we could get home and stuff that fatty food into our insatiable mouths IMMEDIATELY. You can only imagine how crazy it got in that kitchen with 5 Mac and Cheese loving Curtis kids making and divvying out that 1 box we somehow shared. There may have been a fight or two in that kitchen every Sunday, many relating to who got more of the Mac and Cheese...it's just how it was.

Well me and Michelle decided once we started living together a few years ago that there's no sense in breaking such a historic and meaningful tradition so...at our current ages of 23 and 25, we have continued to rush home from church every week, skipping socializing at times (also to keep with the tradition haha), with the understood rule being: first one in the apt throws that pot on the stove and the other gets the ingredients out. We don't mess around when it comes to eating time, especially Mac and Cheese eating time. And don't worry, now that we're grown ups, we split the 1 box between the 2 of us with no problem, and we even get the "3 cheese" version, the coveted one that back in the day arrived in our cupboard only when on sale because my mom was a lot more economical than her 2 daughters. Nothing like being older and single though I guess, you get the good stuff and in greater quantities. :)

Anyways, last week Michelle started shaking that colander full of beautiful shell macaroni around making a weird squishy sound and said, "Ooh I love this sound!" Then like the odd person I am I replied, "ah, I just love the sound of Sundays." To which we both cracked up laughing and thought we are weird and, oooh we should blog about this. That's when we knew we were officially bloggers, thinking of future blog posts as they happen, as dumb as ours are haha. The pictures above are to show us enjoying the sound of Sunday, I still can't stop laughing at Michelle's pic...love that girl.

Be Green, Please

Unlike Harold Camping would have had us believe, the world did not end on May 21, 2011...nor will it end on October 21, 2011 (his latest prediction after having been wrong in twice...or maybe more? I'm not sure).

We don't know when.

So please take care of our planet in the meantime, so that we can live in it comfortably. The Earth tends to get pretty pissed off if we don't.

Basically, I love this advertisement. I'd buy this car, if I had the money. Good job, Nissan:
