Michelle's Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day

I know, I know.....I've neglected this blog for months now. I've been so freakin busy lately though. But I really need to document my day of hell. Before I document why I even moved out here in the first place. This day of hell occurred on my 2nd day here, Thursday March 22.

Oh and this post is really choppy, way sloppy. And boring. It just got so long that I became impatient and I don't feel like I did justice to JUST how bad this day really was. I feel like I somehow left stuff out and idk. It was a long day that kept bombarding me with crap and you just need to understand that now, because I didn't do a good job of illustrating it, even though I used like a million words to do so.

So I was going to rent the smallest size uhaul trailer to move my crap out because I didn't want to deal with finding new furniture. But then the stupid installation of a trailer hitch ending up costing more than what I paid for my bedroom furniture....which was almost nothing. Thank you ksl classifieds, ha. Anyway, I ended up fitting everything I own into my car. Except for a few odds and ends around the apartment which Mary is holding on to and 2 large storage containers that my aunt is so graciously storing for me. Even then....I think I done did pretty darn good with reducing the amount of things that I own to the absolute essentials.

Ok so that's important becaaaause I had to buy new bedroom furniture when I got out here. Hey so ummm that crap is expensive. So, once again...thank you Craigslist. Which I was kind of nervous about because even though the furniture I had bought in SLC from Craigslist was cheap and good enough, it was quite the disaster trying to haul it from one place to the next. More than a few tears were shed during that experience. My elders quorum there was less than helpful. The men I asked either gave me names of someone else who could help instead of offering their own help, or one person actually went so far as to say that he doesn't like feeling like he's "used" for his truck. To which I thought, "eff you, douche." It's called service and I have no one else to help me so okay fine go screw yourself a-hole. Especially cause I wasn't just trying to use him for his truck, I actually felt like we had established a friendship. but whatever.....I digress. Point is, I feared having to deal with the furniture situation again. But it had to be done.

So I got some basics off of there for way cheap from some nice trustworthy people. But since at the time, I didn't know one single person out here, I just rented a uhaul pickup truck to do the job for the day. It costs $20 plus $.59/mile, and you have to fill up the gas where it was when you picked it up (or pay a flat $30 plus $5/gallon). I only planned on driving a total of 40 miles or so, so I figured that I wouldn't end up paying more than $50-60.

So in the morning I went to go pick up my bed. Yes. Yes I did get a used bed from a stranger. Am I disgusting? Maybe. But I do inspect the things that I purchase before I pay money, and it was clearly almost brand new, and lived in a non pet non smoking nice clean home. Plus hello don't we all sleep with sheets? I do. Oh well, I spent easily $100-200 less than I otherwise would have had to. And oh hey when your first paycheck won't come till mid-April, and your previous job was a server, and you have to borrow from your parents (because mine are the BEST for being so great and understanding this past year and half of my life).....that means your broke as hell, man. So yes. Yes I am content purchasing a lightly used mattress. But I picked up the bed at around 730ish am, and that transaction and moving process went very smoothly.

Then around 1030 I left to go to Irvine to pick up my dresser, chest, nightstand set. Not as smooth. After checking it out, I realized it wasn't quite what I was looking for, and decided to call this other lady with whom I had been in communication about a set she was selling in north tustin. An extra 15ish miles each way was not exactly ideal, but I knew I needed to do it. Ok so on the way out of the neighborhood in Irvine I decided to stop by wells fargo to get little more cash to cover the cost of the other furniture. My gps on my phone had told me I arrived at my destination, but I had just missed the entry to the shopping center of what I can now only guess was the destination of this particular wells fargo. So I decided to pull a uturn. TERRIBLE IDEA. Sooo the tire nudged the curb. But ok look I've nudged a lot of curbs in smaller cars with smaller tires, and nothing happens. This was a truck. And yet the tire blew. I was on a street that is part of the free exit. The 405 in Irvine. Just a taaaad high traffic.

And the tears began to flow. And flow....and flow......and flow. I called my mom balling my eyes out because I didn't know what to do, then she told me to call my dad, which I did, balling my eyes out. So after he kindly told me to calm down because he couldn't understand me (my voice gets reeeeaaally high pitched and shaky when I cry), he walked me through what I should do. By that point, my phone was at 15% battery left, and I still had to call Uhaul roadside assistance, use my gps to get to the other furniture place, and also to get back home, and also to get back to the uhaul place. The stress of that made me cry even more. Oh and AT&T has the WORST phone service in this area. Doesn't matter where I am, my phone calls drop....EVERY SINGLE CALL. MORE THAN ONCE. DRIVES ME CRAZY. So while coordinating with roadside assistance, the call keeps dropping. Over. and over. and over. and over again. It was embarrassing and annoying. And scary because my battery life kept dropping. I have a car charger, just didn't think it was necessary since my trip was supposed to take an hour, max. Anyway, roadside assistance showed up within 25 minutes, put the spare on for me and I was on my way. But it was really a traumatic experience for me.

So I put the new address into the gps, figuring that I could stop at a wells fargo at my next destination, and I wrote down the directions in case my phone died....which it did. Right after I wrote down the last direction. I got to the new place, bought the furniture, and headed home. Luckily I had my ipod touch with me, which has wi-fi, so I used their internet and looked up directions home. I made it home, but then had the task of taking the long dresser, chest of drawers, and 2 nightstands out of the truck by myself. That was more than difficult. And you know what? I got it all myself, but saved the biggest for last. And that last piece almost killed me. But right before it almost toppled and killed me, the housecleaners (yes we have  people that come to clean our home once every 2 weeks......best idea ever) ran outside to save me, along with a roommate that I had no idea was home.

So once we got the stuff inside the gate of our home and out of the way, I went to go return the truck. As I was leaving, I went to lock the door, but realized that the housecleaners were still there so I didn't need to. And off I went. I got to the uhaul place, the dude felt sorry for me so he knocked off $10 from the price, which was great because the price had jumped to $66 after the extra miles I had to drive, plus an extra $10-15 in gas that I had replaced just prior. I walk out to my car, talking my dad on the phone thanking him for his help and guidance that afternoon, when I started crying again because I realized I didn't have my car keys. I would have notice those keys weren't on me had I locked the door to my home. But I didn't. And I drove the uhaul truck, not my car. In case you were wondering how that could happen. Once again he walks me through what I need to do because at this point I was fed up with my terrible day and I was hysterical. Luckily, one of my roommates the night before had the brilliant idea of exchanging numbers. Had she not done so, I would have had to walk home to get my keys. So I texted her and asked the number to the girl who I knew was home so I could ask her to bring me my keys. It worked out, and eventually made it home.

That morning, I thought I would have made it home by 2pm, at the latest. It was about 5:30 or so by the time I actually got home. Oh and I still had NO FOOD and was starving. For almost a full week I survived by driving through a fast-food place and ordering 1 or 2 dollar-menu items. Once/day, no more. I'm broke, couldn't (well, can't) afford more than that right now. Sooooo I was very hungry that week.

So I was planning on ending my blog post there, but then just 2 days later, one of my tires on my car went out. I had just had a tiny sandwich for my meal of the day from Arbys, and had big plans to go to IKEA and walmart. You know, to finally buy food. As I rolled away from the drivethrough, I put my windows down only because it felt so nice out. Thank heavens I did because I would not otherwise have heard the funny noise being made as a result of my tire being so flat I was pretty much driving on the rim. I prayed and prayed as I rushed to the closest gas station to fill the tire with air, since I thought it was just a simple flat tire. And in California, if you buy gas from the station, then buy law they have to provide free air for your tire. So I filled with gas, then had my dad talk me through how to fill my tire up....because oh yeah by the way I've never done that before. After much UNsuccess, a very kind lady came up to help me, then pointed out that my tire was shot. No hole or anything, but some threading had come undone or something....? Can I just say that a couple months ago when I had to drop $350 on a new wheel bearing they warned me that this would happen, that the old messed up wheel bearing had ruined the tire and I needed a new one. But then a different guy said it was just fine, nothing would happen. He was wrong. I'm lucky I discovered the problem the way I did, and not on the 405 during rush hr in the morning on the way to work. Anyway, this guy comes out from this really shady looking car service place asking if I needed help. He could barely speak English, but I somehow communicated that I needed my tire to be looked at. He confirmed that I needed a new tire, and asked if I wanted to buy a used one from them. Once again I called my dad to ask for advice, no tears this time. He advised me to ask them just to change it and put the spare on, then take it to Discount Tire and get new a new one. He also told me that they should probably only charge $10 for the service of replacing the spare, but definitely not to pay more than $20. When he finished, I asked what I owed him, and he smiled and said I didn't owe him anything. What a wonderful, kind person. I insisted on giving him something, but he refused to name a price. So I showed him a $10 bill, and he finally gave in after lots of pushing it away. But seriously, what an great example of service. I've mentioned that I'm broke as hell right now, but this gentleman clearly wasn't exactly rolling in dough either. And I'm willing to bet that he has a family to support, etc. Whereas I.......do not. I have only myself to care for, and even though my parents will help me the second I ask for it. Anyway, great man, and I hope that I can learn to be as selfless as him.

So I made it Discount tire, and learned that I needed not one.....two.....or even three new tires.......I needed all four tires replaced. And it was legit, not a lie. Any idiot could tell that my tires were barely black pieces of rubber at that point, no traction whatsoever. And to think I drove from SLC to Huntington Beach on those bad boys. So I dropped another $500 dollars on tires that day. And then another $100 in groceries by the time I actually made it to the grocery store. oh btw......walmart sucks here. They have nothing that I like! My favorite greek yogurt, my favorite almond milk, my favorite cheese.....none of it! But there's an albertsons just across the street from my house, and also apparently a store called "Trader Joe's" is the trendy thing out here? I guess I'll have to check it out. OH and Farmers market things all over the place. So I get to eat fresh produce! YAY. I have a lot to blog about my new life out here. But I think this book that I just wrote will have to suffice......I know it was long and I'm sorry if you were dumb enough to take the time to read this boring sob story, I just really wanted to document it. And this is the closest thing I have to owning a journal. Sad I know. Whatever.

But can I just take a minute to be cheesy and spiritual/religious and whatnot? Stop reading right now if this kind of thing makes you uncomfortable. It usually makes me really uncomfortable so I wouldn't blame you. But I'd feel ungrateful if I didn't take a minute to give tribute to the man upstairs who watches over me. Some of you out there may not believe in God, but I really do. And I believe that I had my butt saved more than a few times by Him. I don't think it was simply coincidence that my phone battery stayed alive just long enough to get me around town and not get lost. Would I have found a way to survive and get home otherwise? Well of course. But it would have been so much harder. Had I not felt prompted to roll my window down at Arbys as I drove away, I wouldn't have heard that funny noise, because I didn't feel it as I drove. But I did and made it to a gas station. I also happened to stop at a station that just so happened to have a car shop attached to the back. Which I desperately needed because I don't know to change a tire, nor do I have the equipment to do so. Oh and tithing. I paid my tithing right before I left, and was down to $100 in my checking and $100 in my savings. I almost decided to wait to pay my tithing because I desperately needed the money that really doesn't even belong to me, it belongs to God. But I needed it. Lo and behold, after I paid, my $1000 tax return showed up and I was able to pay my rent for the month of April without needing to borrow yet MORE money from my parents. Blessings my friends, blessings. I also need a minute to point out how great my parents out. I truly could not have made this move all by myself without them answering their phones and being at my beckon and call all day long. ALL DAY LONG. every day. Oh and also for the money they've lent me till my first paycheck rolls around in 2 weeks.

It's been a tough 2 weeks adjusting on my own, and living without Mary. I miss that girl more than I love tortillas and cheese. (and if you know me at all, you know that tortillas and colby jack cheese is my staple food). But I know now that moving was the right thing for me to do right now....even though I knew it was a great opportunity, I was still in doubt whether or not I should really move. I'm so glad I bit the bullet and did it. I've already made great friends in the ward, and really just things are looking up. And I mean let's get real, who doesn't love dollar taco stands on every corner, and also living within walking distance to beach???? Orange County is treatin me real nice :-)

Belated Vday Post

Michelle got us a groupon for a sleigh ride in Park City back in December and as usual, life became busy and so we didn't use it until right before it expired, which happened to be the day before Valentine's Day. We realized this coincidental timing when we got there which made this adventure even more hilarious to us. Because of that, we decided to go all out and make it an early Valentine's Day celebration since we both know that we would be carrying on the yearly tradition of celebrating it solely with one another. If you knew how much fun we had together, you'd know there is no sympathy needed...just jealously for the amount of laughter and good times we had.

Standing in front of one of the sleighs before taking off!

Part of our scenic tour, I just found this to be funny...you know  how I do, laugh at things most people don't think are that funny. Michelle at least pity laughed, which is another reason why she is so awesome.

Beautiful scenery along the ride

The many faces of Michelle, how can you not laugh for hours when you're around her??

Aw, she's so pretty-ful :)

We were jealous of that sleigh ride behind us...the driver told stories and kept them entertained. Ours decided speaking was not going to happen from his side so we awkwardly talked and giggled in the back as we looked around and took pictures.

Zoolander Michelle

Michelle with our mute cowboy driver

Oh and then there's me...our driver was very happy to stay put for picture time, can't you tell?

Our view on the drive back to Salt Lake

We decided to go out to dinner too, it was Vday afterall. Maybe the news of how much we eat got out to the restaurant world because the PF Changs staff gave us a  HUGE booth to sit at while sharing our 4 course feast :)

I apparently like to pretend people are actually sitting with me to put my arms around

This picture says it all - we ate WAY too much food and we paid for it. Not money-wise since we got a great Vday deal but tummy ache-wise. Still, so worth it.

Now my lovely Valentine/best friend/sister will be leaving me in a few days to move to California for a new job and to answer everyone's questions that you've been asking/wondering once and for all: NO, it is not okay...NO, we are not handling it well...YES, we have cried multiple times already and have pits in our stomachs daily knowing how hard it will be...YES, I'm crying as I write this...but YES, it is the right thing for Michelle to do so we'll have to push through and become frequent fliers/have a countdown until I can move out to paradise with her!

Cabin Fever

Luckily for me and Janae, princess year continued a couple weeks after we got back from the cruise when we were invited to go play at our friends’ cabin past Heber and up by the Uinta National Forest!

I am now experiencing this cabin fever I mention in the title in that I am now antsy to get back to the cabin life where things were laid back, free of stress and phone service and where the friends and country music were a constant.

I figured I covered my word limit for blogging for the year on my last post so I'll just list a few memorable parts of the trip. :)

  • Hanging out and chatting with the parents as soon as we arrived while the boys helped get some people unstuck...we impressed our new friends with my good RD eating habits as I downed a hamburger, fries and licked the bowel clean of fry sauce
  • Squeezing Caleb, Janae and I on a snowmobile to get to church (praying Janae didn't fly off the back), doing so supposedly for time-sake but now that I think about it, there may have been ulterior motives involved...
  • Back-scratch Sacrament Meeting at a local ward...followed by spiritual thought Sunday School/RS/EQ in the cabin with the family
  • Games where Janae announces that she farted
  • Games where Janae announces my history of unusual sweating while exerting physical labor/activity
  • Magic games and fortune telling where we all found out who our future spouses would be...I've been a little sad since finding out the news, the cards were not on my side. Curse the fortune telling/teller
  • Getting caught sleep cuddling with Janae...I'm going to blame Janae on this one and her insistence on staying in the same room/bed despite the 50 available beds in the cabin
  • PHENOMENAL acting by Janae and yours truly in a short-lived game of Murder Charades
  • Being trapped in the powdery snow, and trapped in, well...yeah just the snow :)
  • Yummy food all around me, including a special version of french toast and homemade syrup...mmm
  • Country music playing all. the. time. Simply heaven to me
  • Getting caught in my goofy attempts at dancing to the music as we cleaned
  • The chance to drive the snowmobile up the mountain and get stuck
  • The chance to crash into a fence on the first attempt to drive the snowmobiles
  • Taking lots of fun pictures to brag to all of you about how awesome our lives are :)

Welcome to the Wertz family cabin!

We didn't sleep a lot despite what these next 3 incriminating pictures imply...
Caught ya Caleb

Isn't she just so cute?

LOVE love my Sunday afternoon naps

We slept, they prepared food...sounds fair right?

The men of the house (cabin) decided it was their turn to nap....together, group nap style. Once again, so precious

We decided to step it up and help out...Sue (Janae's mom) would be so proud of the documentation of her helpfulness and men, take note of this one - she's a keeper ;)

Games with everyone

Love us some manly men, thank them for our raised standards guys

Being the helpful friends we are, we stood and posed for pictures as they fixed the snowmobile

I think this is a good look for me, no? :-p

Syrup with French Toast...clearly I loved Caleb's special recipe for syrup, either that or I have a sugar addiction problem. I'm gonna say a little of both

Brett stepping in to help a Texas girl figure out how to stay warm when playing in the snow

Oh hey, it's us posing pre-snowmobile fun (aka pre-pull-mary-and-janae-out-of-the-snow/mountains-fun)

(Please excuse the scarf issues I have in the rest of these pictures, I was missing my fashion savvy sister on this trip who usually helps me with these seemingly intuitive/basic things...)

Continuing to pose while the guys get things ready to go

I like the shoulder turn Janae-nae

AWESOME shot of Brett making pathways for us gals that can't drive in the powder

I MAY or may not have driven up the side of the mountain...on a very sharp  turn going up through the Uinta National Forest

Yes, the answer is yes...I took pictures as Caleb pulled my snowmobile out (don't be too mad at me, I later stepped up to help...I just know my priorities :) )

It was really deep, like up to my waist deep, in snow

Janae managed the situation well from afar, smart girl

Snowmobile out and time for more pics of the evidence

Where my snowmobile paid a visit

Beautiful Utah scenery

Aw
(Thank goodness Janae practiced that knee-pop all year long, looks like she mastered it and added a cute dimension to this group photo ;) )

Where the (my) heart (still) is.....2012 Southern Caribbean Cruise!

I'm not even sure where to start with this blog post but suffice it to say that 2012 has treated me quite well so far. So good in fact that Janae and I like to refer to it now as "Princess Year" just so that it's perfectly clear how great it's been to us. I almost fear writing this post will jinx the goodness of the year but I feel the need to brag to all of you about it as that is one of the underlying purposes of having a blog right? :)

Let's begin with my Single's Cruise to the Southern Caribbean at the end of January of this year. So. much. fun. I can't really put into words how happy I was, how much I laughed, how carefree I was, how many great new friends I made, etc etc but...I will try to appease the masses of blogstalkers (all 5 of you) by sharing a few pics. :) Now I already posted, oh you know, about 200 pictures (narrowed down from 500 on my camera) on facebook in an album. Because of that, I'll just leave the link here and count that good so to not repeat myself and help in making this blog post my typical short posts of ~5 pages, instead of what would be ~15. Your welcome.

Turns out I'm a nerd and documented my week in paradise so if you have an hour to read about my adventures (mom, siblings, Janae...I'm talking to you haha), then continue reading...

Everyday was an adventure on this trip. We started in Puerto Rico, where the ship took off from, and stayed in a hostel, mostly because we wanted to impress our friends with how hardcore we are but also because it was super cheap and right in the middle of Old San Juan and walking distance from the ship. Not that the roads were made for people dragging 3 rolly pieces of luggage, but we made it to where we needed to go with only minor injuries of broken toes and sweaty appearances upon arrival. Oh and let's not forget to mention the rash Janae took as a souvenir from the hostel's bed. She got to share the bed with me there though so overall our choice was, clearly, so worth it. Anyways...after landing in Puerto Rico on Saturday, we went down to see the Bioluminescent Bay, a body of water in Vieques Bay where the water glows. That was quite the adventure getting there but definitely worth it.

Now from the time we left Salt Lake on our red eye flight Friday night to Saturday night when we had been in Puerto Rico for about 12 hours, we had taken 14 vehicles of transportation. Suffice it to say, we were BEAT by the time we hit our pillows that night. We got back from Vieques at around midnight and crashed for like 11 hours, barely crawling out of our bed before our checkout at noon. We were just trying to fit in with the classiness of the place. Don't judge. We didn't even get our showers as a result so we toured the forts that day and then boarded the ship looking like we had been traveling for days and rocking the unclean/unkept look (perhaps because we had) so we apologize to those in our path, including a few friends in our cruise group that we so luckily bumped into on the way on. We like to make good first impressions.

The embarkation party that night was so fun and it hit at that time that I was about to have the adventure of my life.  Yay Single's Cruise 2012! That night we started documentation of the growth of the 'food baby.' The food wasn't all that impressive on the ship but thanks to the melting cake and 24 hr self serve ice cream machines, we still went above and beyond our caloric needs for weight gain and food baby growth. Therefore, every night, we took our "pregnancy pics" after dinner and documented our food baby growth, the way those that are actually pregnant do. Don't worry about it, it's totally weird normal of us.

We played in St. Thomas the next day (Monday) where we traveled with the group out by ferry to St. John, the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. For some reason we enjoyed watching people play ultimate frisbee and take pictures of everything rather than participating. Might be one regret I have, we've committed to do better next year. That night was Hawaiian night at dinner and we met some fun friends that made me laugh a lot, which I appreciated because the quality of food that night was not worth my attention.

Tuesday we had our only day at sea and I LOVED it. It was so relaxing to lay out with friends and share the experience of earning our first ridiculous sunburn of the trip together and consume about 7 ice cream cones. Something about laying out, eating and relaxing increases the bonding power with people so naturally we made even more friends that day. Might have something to do with feeling absolute happiness. We later played on the water slide, where I made the record for slowest water slider in history. I like to win things, can't be picky so I went with it. We later went to some funny shows, karoke and went dancing that night which is always a sight to see...a bunch of Mormons busting out the dance moves. I had so much fun either way and the people at the bar enjoyed the free awkward yet fantastic show.

Wednesday we went to Barbados and got to go snorkeling with the sea turtles which was definitely a new experience for me! I was amazed at how close they'd get to us, bumping into us and everything. Janae was kind enough to take 241 pictures of them so check these cute guys out on my facebook album. We also got to see a shipwreck and coral which also made me feel pretty cool.  One highlight from the trip that day involved one of my top embarrassing moments, which is saying something since if you know me at all, you know these are common occurrences for me. It's a long story but basically I had an emergency I-need-a-bathroom-right-now-to-pee-or-I'm-jumping-overboard moment. I ended up resorting to going in the space shuttle looking compartment on the side of this small boat, having people help me in and out of the shuttle and making quite the scene. Feeling toilet shy was only the beginning of my thoughts once I finally found my way to the toddler sized toilet. I got an applause as I made it out and accomplished my goal of getting to know everyone on the boat that day. Good work Mary. Now there was a scuba group that got to actually go into the ship wreck that day and later see sharks but you can see how we definitely got the better experience floating above the water staring at the ship wreck from a distance, playing with less crazy creatures and using toddler toilets with everyone's help on the boat. :-P haha.

That night we attempted to watch the sun set but of course I ran back to get my camera to document said event so I ended up missing despite my dedicated endeavors. I hear it was cool. Oh well. At dinner we sat at a table that was flooded with kisses, unfortunately they all were from the girls and delivered to one individual, our new and now good friend Caleb, who claimed it was his birthday. Caleb saved us many times on the trip though so now looking back, I think we owe him a kiss. He ended up receiving quite a few birthday kisses that night and I started cursing my parents for not waiting a couple months to have me so I could've received such cruise dinner love. Meanwhile, Caleb and I focused our attention on finding Janae a husband among our group that met her brother's standards for her future spouse - didn't live at home, made a living (not necessarily legal) and who loves Red Mango (this last one added by Janae). Caleb and I really struggled with this task thanks to the tight standards, (dang Red Mango haters), and were left without any options to offer her in the near vicinity of our table. We laughed a lot but were unable to accomplish the goal. Dancing and karaoke followed our dinner that night.

Thursday we went ziplining through the rainforests of St. Lucia where Janae FINALLY found her future husband. A worker pushed me aside on one of the lines and gave Janae a "great cruise experience," attaching her to him and they flew down the line together, spinning and singing songs of love. It was so cute. We missed out on a seemingly fun trip to the mud baths with the group that day, the mud baths shown in the show the Bachelor apparently (pretty sure one of our awesome guys on the cruise had to inform me of that haha). Missing this trip broke our little hearts but we still had fun and again, committed to doing better with group activities in the future. That night was another fun night at dinner and was followed by some late night Mormon/EFY-like games including dares and other goofy games. Of course I loved every one last of those games and was proud to finally be doing better with the goal of finding/joining the group for group activities so was glad to participate.

Friday we went with the group on scooters touring the island of St. Kitts. BEST ACTIVITY by far. It was amazing to soar through the town (at max of 40 mph:)) seeing the people, their lives, the scenery, beaches and historic forts. Lucky for us, the guys drove us gals so I sat back and took it all in. I felt like life couldn't get any better at that moment. I need to be back there. I just do.

For dinner we wore our formal attire and Janae and I curled my hair which was quite the feat. Michelle was so proud. :) Then...I had another "Mary moment," special moment...whatever you want to call it, that ended up in some embarrassing pictures. Let's just say I learned my lesson to not wear a nude bra with thin black clothing when cameras with flash are involved...I felt like a part of me was resembling the Bioluminescent Bay and lucky for me, that was the night of pictures so everyone has that image to cherish forever on their cameras. Awesome. Haha.

Later that night we played another funny game, this one went by the name of Kissing Rugby where I'm pretty sure I earned myself the nickname of "fiesty gumby." I grew up with all girls, was a ballerina most of my life and am not typically the competitive type so was surprised to see how aggressive and competitive I became with this game. For those intrigued individuals...this game involved trying to kiss the person in the middle before someone else in the group kissed you. Yes, we know...we are a bunch of sexually frustrated youngish Mormon single adults. :)

Saturday we slept in really late because I came down with something earlier in the week and had not been sleeping well (not to mention all our late nights of talking and playing games) so...we decided we were allowed to get some shut eye that night/morning. We found our Sacramento friends getting lunch, since lunchtime was about the time we had rolled out of bed...and found a friend to walk to the beach with us in St. Maartan and soak up some final rays! Jon was so kind to pick up seashells for us with his feet, a skill I always look for in a guy, and then we got our 3rd pina colada for the week and relaxed on the beach. That night we watched the final cruise show which our group starred in and then hung out and talked with friends again. That never got old. Never.

Sunday we reluctantly got out of bed and dragged our luggage off the ship. We refused to leave until a man over the intercom asked the remaining passengers to please leave the ship. That's us. Whoops. I don't regret those moments of disobedience though, any extra time on the ship is extra happiness for me. All our friends took taxis to their fancy smanchy hotels and we walked to our hostel. We checked in, dropped off our stuff then took a taxi to join our cool friends at the Marriott to use their backyard beach and watch the superbowl with everyone. We were so tired that we fell asleep out on the beach as soon as we arrived that afternoon and then used our friends' hotel room for more naps before the game. We also learned a very important lesson, 4 adults can indeed fit on a hotel bed for naptime. Your welcome for that information for future endeavors. Haha.

Monday we left for the airport and had some good friends from the cruise be so kind to pick us up from our hostel and drive us to the airport since we were on the same flight. We almost missed our flight though due to an unfortunate incident with a place called Cinnabon. Curse the piles of lard and the attraction Janae and I have to them...our friend saved us though and that cinnamon roll was so worth it so I'd say it ended up being a positive thing for us, despite the double heart attack that roll of goodness inflicted upon us.

It's been about 3 weeks now since that dreaded departure date from San Juan. Janae and I have looked back at our pictures multiple times, still talk often about the funny stories/amazing experiences we had out there and spend any minute we can with our "cruise friends"...I'm still wondering why we ever walked off that ship. The goal this year - stay single and keep everyone else in single status to relive this next year! Yeah 2013 Singles cruise...only 300 or so more days!! :)

Are you still awake? If so, you deserve an award. And that reward is the videos that we took throughout the week...some are longer than others and some not as interesting maybe to those not there but for the few out there that may laugh, this is for you. :)

(Captions explaining the video's contents written beneath the posted video.)

The boat ride over to Vieques Bay in Puerto Rico on our way to the Bioluminescent Bay...the purpose of this video was to depict how rocky the ride was, the rockiest, most nauseating ride I have EVER been on but hilarious because of the hosts of the ship and everyone's reactions. We missed the part when it was more intense but this is still pretty good. We were pretending to be drunk as we slid around and drank our virgin Pina Coladas so please excuse the dorkiness. :)

Documenting the first time of many that we ran down the hallway on the 2nd floor to our room...a couple warnings though, this video catches quite a few of our ditzy moments (mostly mine) that are both funny/embarrassing and like Janae says in the video, "this is a long video so bless your heart if you have the patience to watch it all." I think it's worth it so give it a go, won't you? (We also documented in this video the embarrassment we felt when running into our fellow single's cruise people when boarding, looking as unshowered for days as we did haha)

My attempt to document me going down the zipline...I had to hold on with both hands at one point though so it's mostly a ride viewing my shirt. It's a pretty colored shirt though so it could be worse. The part to watch though is when the worker at the end starts asking me questions about my personal life...and when Janae comes flying in. You have to listen closely but it's pretty funny if you can make out what we're saying.

Oh dear...you would think I never showered on the trip but the humidity just doesn't bode well with my appearance nor did sleeplessness. I'm in the Caribbean so I'm happy regardless. (This video shows me on the fastest, most exciting line at the end...too bad I screwed it up by pulling on the line too early due to the pinching on my leg from wearing a skirt to zipline. :-P)

I took this video as my scooter buddy took me along the roads of St. Kitts. Ah, happiness.

A sneak peak into the game of kissing rugby...this was towards the end of a long round where I ended up getting twisted in the most awkward positions for an extended period of time! I'm sorry we didn't get all of that awkwardness on video for us to view that but still, I think you'll get the idea. At this moment, he is trying to kiss me and I am trying to get away to kiss the guy in the middle that I once was holding on to but now so far from that he's not even in the shot. Obviously, this is one I lost...too bad my 'fiestiness' just couldn't seem to win me many of the challenges.

Southern Belle

I know I haven't touched this blog in months. I still intend to post about Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines day, and my current job search struggle. But I just can't justify blogging when there's so much I want to catch up on with reading and whatnot. So, soon hopefully. Anyway, I stayed home all day today because work has just worn me out and also I feel so behind on my current events. So I've just been reading up and this song just came on my shuffle.

I forgot how much I love it.
Been a while.
RIP Elliot Smith.

Sneak peak into my daily covert operations

These past couple weeks have been tough at work but despite that, I still love my job. It only takes that moment when I go into an adorable infant's room to chart and find them crying so take the opportunity to soothe him/her with the pacifer/play with them and/or to see the progress they make in their feedings and growth to help me remember how lucky I am to have such an amazing job.

I feel like you should get a chance to peak at what goes on in this locked down unit everyday so I decided to throw a video on here of a story that ABC did for us about a month ago. One of those babies is still here in our unit and I've gotten to know her quite well so it was fun for me to watch this video and see how much bigger and better she is now! Ah, the reward is just so great. Sit back and enjoy:

On a completely different and random note...because of the stress of this past month in general, I found this video of a BYU kid coming out of a wisdom tooth extraction to be especially helpful in lightening my mood and giving me a laugh. So...if you have 9 minutes and are in need of a stupid humor induced laugh, stay a bit longer will you? :)

Diva (birthday) Week

As Michelle has publicized on the F-book, I tend to dramatize my bday a bit every year and make sure I get friends together to do something fun and I always come away with some good memories to combat the depressing realization of my inevitable aging. This year was no exception. I got to celebrate my birthday x3 between a dinner and ice skating with friends, with family in California and finally at an amazing production of the Nutcracker by Ballet West. I feel like pictures tell the story better so I'll just throw a thousand pics on here for you to enjoy but just know, there was lots of laughter, generous gifts and great memories created.

[I know I probably say this everytime but please excuse the mess concerning my assortment of pictures...I cannot seem to figure this blogger world out and I'm losing my mind trying to do so therefore this will have to do. :)]

The gang at Sawadee (amazing Thai food restaurant for bday dinner)

I could not resist including this one - Michelle getting
ready for a pic but appearing to be sneaking a peak
at my friend Emily's chest

Funny because Jared is married and Emily had just met him
but smiled so naturally for this potentially awkward pic Jared
with his awesome humor decided to create haha

I think Jon is showing how he is not happy about Michelle telling him
what to order...and Laura and Janae are FASCINATED by this :)

On to the skating rink for more goofy pics!

I think we're going with bday spankings for the reason behind this one...

Practicing for their partner routine for their upcoming ice skating competition

We think Jon is hilarious - this is proof for anyone who doubted
"Hey smile!" And this is what you get. Awesomeness. :)

Opening presents with my sister Lindsey and her cute family in Sacramento. I think Landon is eyeing that cake and Liam is ready to help open!

We love these guys...and may have tried to take them back home with us, again, without success. :(

Look what Mom got me! Getting me all ready for that barefoot pregnant in the kitchen thing...getting closer and closer but still missing one important thing...haha

The siblings got me running shoes, hence the stinky expressions we're making :)

Replica of the lemon creme cake at Olive Garden done perfectly. I was definitely a happy girl!

Excitement about receiving news of a trip to the
Nutcracker in my near future!

So fun to dress up and take it all in...I will always
love the Nutcracker. Can't wait for their next show!

And finally...a Video of the aftermath of a Sawadee crew singing for my bday - I have great friends to thank for this spotlight and the capture of it on video (although you only get to witness the very end of it and miss the singing part hehe)
